Celebrating a Year-Long Journey to Healthy School Meals
San Luis Obispo, CA – It was a moment of pride and achievement when John Haley, our amazing Food Services Director, graduated from the esteemed Chef Ann Healthy School Food Pathway Fellowship. The graduation ceremony took place in the beautiful city of San Luis Obispo, marking the end of an intensive year-long program aimed at transforming school food services and promoting healthy eating habits among students.
The Chef Ann Healthy School Food Pathway Fellowship is known for its comprehensive curriculum, giving the 21 participants from across the country the tools and skills they need to revolutionize school meal programs. Over the past year, John really showed his dedication and passion, digging deep into subjects like nutrition, sustainable sourcing, culinary techniques, and effective food service management. John has attended weekly sessions with assignments, site visits to school operations across the country and countless hours of reading.
One of the highlights of John’s journey was his capstone project, which focused on incorporating indigenous foods into our school cafeteria. This project not only celebrated local food traditions but also educated students about the rich cultural heritage our indigenous community. It perfectly showcased John's commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive meal program.
During the graduation ceremony, John expressed his gratitude for the invaluable lessons and experiences he gained throughout the fellowship.
