Core Values are central beliefs about what is good, right, important, deeply understood, shared and vigorously supported by every member of the organization. The Salamanca City Central School District believes these Core Values to be fundamental and critical to our Mission:

  • It is essential that the unique talents, needs, and cultural diversity among all learners be recognized and addressed.

  • All students deserve to have equal access to challenging opportunities that instill a joy of learning.

  • Schools need to be safe environments that promote a sense of community, enhanced a feeling of positive self-worth, and reduce the fear of failure.

All members of the community and all school district staff are stakeholders of the district and have the right to be treated fairly and respectfully and the responsibility to treat others accordingly.

Our District

The Salamanca City Central School District has an enrollment of approximately 1,440 students in Grades PK-12. The Prospect Elementary School [PK-3] has 485 students. The Seneca Intermediate School [4-7] has 378 students. The High School [8-12] has 510 students. The District employs a professional staff of 178 teaching & support personnel, 76 civil service staff, 6 administrators, 2 Assistant Superintendents and a Superintendent of Schools. The District prides itself on employing support staff specialists who provide speech, remedial reading/math, ESL/LEP, literacy, library, computer, STEAM, psychological, counseling and clinical social work services.

The District Management team is comprised of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Director of Facilities, Director of Transportation and 3 building principals, 2 assistant principals and a Director of Special Education. Additional support personnel provide targeted leadership in Athletics, ELA & Math Coaching and a newly implemented district-wide STEAM Coach.

The Salamanca City Central School District works collaboratively within the community to promote a positive image focused on engagement, academic excellence, and rigor grounded in literacy, technology, and 21st century skills and enjoys tremendous community support. Approximately 75% of our graduates attend and pursue post-secondary higher education. The District believes that each student will use the tools of current and developing technologies for occupational and vocational pursuits to prepare themselves for the future. To that end, the District operates a 1:1 mobile platform for students in grades 4-12 and utilizes 1:1 classroom devices for students in grades PK-3. A comprehensive Wi-Fi network links all buildings and classrooms and school buses. A newly constructed STEAM addition at the High School, Weight room and enhance campus-wide security and infrastructure as well as address roof and parking lot repairs.

Salamanca High School has posted significant gains in overall cohort graduation rates (+15%), student average daily attendance (+5%), an increase in Native American graduation rates (40+%) and an impressive decrease in the cohort non-completion rates (-19%). These gains are possible due in large part to the maintenance of a robust extra-curricular program including a recently added Girls lacrosse team, highly competitive Odyssey of the Mind teams, and extended day student programming including archery, STEAM-Maker Space, Trap club, and a host of other student centered and engaging program opportunities.

Salamanca students are encouraged to support their community through volunteerism and service. The District actively partners with community organizations and institutions of higher learning including, Jamestown Business College and Jamestown Community College, the University of Buffalo, the National Math Science Institute and the National Indian Impacted Schools Association.

The City of Salamanca is located on the Allegany Territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians. Approximately 38% of our student body is Native American. Special New York State, Federal monies and other grant funding supports academic, social, emotional and athletic programming annually to support our local school tax base.

Our Community

The City of Salamanca, nestled in the southwest portion of New York State on I-86 corridor, has a great deal to offer to current and prospective residents. The Allegheny River winds its way through the middle of the city and surrounding townships and the city's southern backyard boundary is the beautiful Allegany State Park which is available year round for various outdoor activities. The entire area is a naturally beautiful setting for golf, skiing (downhill and cross-country), hunting and fishing, boating, camping and hiking. Salamanca is the only city in the entire nation that lies primarily on an Indian territory. This unique attribute contributes to our identity and pride. Tourism is fast becoming a major industry in Salamanca and the surrounding area including Seneca-Allegany Casino, Kinzua Dam, Elkdale Country Club, and the Holiday Valley and Holimont Ski Resorts, all within a ten minute drive.

The City of Salamanca's population is large enough to deem it a city, yet has a small town character and charm. It is historically known as a railroad town. On Main Street beside the rail lines sits the Salamanca Railroad Museum. The Seneca-Iroquois National Museum is located in the district and has recently broken ground on a multi-million dollar facility. Annually the Seneca Nation PowWow is held drawing Native American craftsman, dancers and artists from around the United States and Canada. Annually the city sponsors a Falling Leaves Festival which is a mainstay autumn attraction complementing the amazing scenery as summer transition to fall.

St. Bonaventure University, SUNY Empire College, Jamestown Community College and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford provide ready access to individual seeking advanced degrees and training. Access to I-86 and US Route 219 afford Salamanca residents access to the cultural and social activities in Buffalo, Olean, Jamestown and Corning. Salamanca is an easy commute to see major sports team franchises such as the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and cultural events like the Buffalo Philharmonic, Corning Museum of Glass, and Chautauqua Institute.
