Student & Parent/Guardian must have a FSA ID to complete. It takes 1-3 days for your social security number to be verified by the Social Security Administration. This must be done before you can submit the FAFSA. If a parent has a FSA ID already, they use the same one.
Students will need their social security number & a personal email address and phone number. *Names must match what is in the social security card.
Students will also need their parent’s social security number and email address to invite their parent, as a contributor, to complete their portion of the FAFSA.
Which parent’s information must be included on the FAFSA?
Parents are married – Both parents
Parents are divorced (not remarried) – Only parent who provides the most financial support
Parents are divorced (remarried) – Parent and step-parent who provides most financial support
Parents were never married (don’t live together)- Only parent who provides most financial support
Parents are not married (DO live together) – Both parents
◊ If attending college in NYS, complete the NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application at www.hesc.ny.gov

Student can list only 1 college on this application. List the college you are most likely to attend if accepted. If that changes, you will need to log back in and change the name of the college to the correct one.
◊ Excelsior Scholarship - If attending a SUNY or CUNY college, or Cornell University and Alfred University. **This application will not be open for the 24-25 aid year until late spring of 2024.
