High school students save time! Take your Driver's Permit Test at school!
The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles’ Online Knowledge Test Application (OKTA) allows high school students ages 15 and older to take the driver’s permit test at Salamanca High School for free; reducing the time spent by students and their parents at the DMV office. The test is presented in an easy-to-use computer format and is offered in English and Spanish.
Mrs. Hanson, in the high school library, administers the exam. Proof of identity must first be presented, then the student’s basic information is entered into the system. After completing the test, the OKTA program automatically scores each test and displays the results for the student on the computer screen. For those that pass, Mrs. Hanson gives the student a printed receipt as proof of passing along with the other forms which they need to present at the DMV office. The learner's permit is issued at the DMV office when the student pays the fees. If the student doesn't pass, they can retake the test as often as they need to. Mrs. Hanson recommends studying the driver's manual further before testing and re-testing.
Stop in the high school library, or email Mrs. Hanson (PHanson@salamancany.org) to set up a time to take the test. It typically takes 20-30 minutes to complete the process.
