Mr. Lloyd Long - Principal

Dear Students, Parents, and Staff,

I hope this letter finds you all well and rejuvenated after a well-deserved summer break. My name is Lloyd E Long II, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Salamanca High School, my Alma Mater. It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I welcome you back for the 2024-2025 school year.

As we embark on this academic journey together, I want to share my vision and goals for our school community. My primary focus will be on enhancing student attendance and fostering a culture of learning and growth. Regular attendance is crucial for academic success, and I am committed to creating an environment where every student feels motivated and supported to attend school every day.

To achieve this, we will be implementing the following:

  1. Attendance Incentive Programs: We will introduce reward systems to recognize and celebrate students with excellent attendance records. These incentives will include certificates, special events, and other exciting opportunities.

  2. Engaging Learning Experiences: Our dedicated teachers will be incorporating learning activities to make the classroom experience more engaging and enjoyable for all students.

  3. Support Systems: We will strengthen our support systems to ensure that students facing challenges, whether academic or personal, receive the help they need. This includes counseling services, tutoring programs, and interest directed opportunities.

  4. Parental Involvement: We believe that a strong partnership between the school and parents is essential for student success. We will be organizing regular parent-teacher meetings, workshops, and events to keep you informed and involved in your child’s education.

I am confident that with your support and collaboration, we can make this school year an impactful one. Let us work together to create a positive and nurturing environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.

Thank you for your warm welcome, and I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming weeks. Let’s make this year one that positively impacts your child’s educational journey!

Warm regards,

Lloyd E Long II

Mr. Edelmiro Cruz- Ass't Principal

Dear Parents/Caregivers and Students,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.  I hope that you had a wonderful summer. I am pleased to welcome over 500 8th-12th graders and their families to our school community. Here at SCCSD, we are working hard at getting this school year off to a great start for everyone.

For those students who are new to the school community, and as a reminder to all other students, the following is a brief list of ways to make sure you are on the road to success each day:

  • Arrive at school on time. Doors Open at 7:25 a.m.  Classes start promptly at 7:45 a.m. Please plan travel accordingly. Do not be late!  A warning bell sounds at 7:40 a.m.

  • Eat breakfast each morning. Breakfast is offered in the cafeteria, free of charge starting at 7:30 a.m. Lunch is free for all students, too. Nutrition is extremely important for learning and growth.

  • Come prepared. SCCSD will provide supplies for all students including a laptop for daily use.  Bring your laptop with you to every class every day.

  • We discourage the use of personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, in school. Social media and non-urgent text messages and calls can wait until the end of the school day. Please leave phones at home or place them in lockers upon arrival.  If parents need to reach their child at any point during the school day, please call the school at 716-945-2404.

  • Get involved! SCCSD has many opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom. All students are encouraged to join a club, student government, sports team or after-school activities.

  • Study and complete all work.  Use our library and after-school resources for success.  You are encouraged to take advantage of our community partners’ offerings.  You will receive more information concerning ELOC, Tutors, Family Liaisons, and other programs during the first week of school.

Parents/Guardians-- please enroll in PowerSchool, our online grading system.  PowerSchool provides you with regular updates concerning your child's progress in his/her classes. You will also be able to communicate with your child’s teacher more easily and regularly if you are enrolled.

A Welcome Back Picnic is scheduled for August 28,2024 starting at 5 p.m., Open house is October 10, 2024, and Parent-Teacher conferences are October 22nd and 23rd.  I hope that you will be able to attend. Please mark your calendars as specific dates and times are announced in this and future correspondences.

Feel free to contact me at 716-945-2404 Ext. 6002 or via email at ecruz@salamancany.org should you need any further information.

Please join Mr. Long and I for coffee with the administrators – an open-door session for parents and caregivers.  Times and dates will be communicated to you soon.

Once again, I am excited about a successful school year and I look forward to seeing you all real soon!

Sincerely,

Ed Cruz
Assistant Principal

Shared Decision-Making and Title 1 Funding

Shared decision-making (SDM) enables all members of the Salamanca community to become stakeholders in the process of encouraging meaningful learning and positive educational change. The district officials define shared decision-making as a process in which all members collaborate in identifying problems, define goals, formulating policy and implementing programs by consensus. This includes the use of Title 1 funding. Continuously SDM has empowered the Salamanca School to create and recreate a stimulating community environment for learning.

Each of our buildings participate in joint planning for the District. This is an opportunity to bring parents, administration, community, and staff together to discuss building level issues, collaboratively work to improve student achievement, and plan for the use of Title 1 funding.

If you would like to be a member, please contact your child’s school principal, or the Superintendent at 945- 2403.
