Mitchel Schnaufer

Mitchel Schnaufer Valedictorian (103.41)

Mitchel Schnaufer graduates with an overall average of 103.41 and has been named Salamanca High School’s Valedictorian of the Class of 2024.  He is the son of Timothy and Susan Schnaufer. Mitchel successfully completed a challenging program of study, including 15 college courses and 4 advanced placement courses.  Mitchel has earned a NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors, Mastery in Math, and Mastery in Science.  He will be attending SUNY Fredonia in the fall of 2024, dual majoring in Music Performance (Bassoon) and Computer Information Systems. Mitchel received the SUNY Fredonia President’s Award of Excellence, SUNY Fredonia Alumni Scholarship, and the SUNY Fredonia Music Scholarship. Other scholarships and awards won include: the Nan Ackerman Memorial Scholarship, Christopher T. and Carmen Hughes Memorial Scholarship, National Merit Scholarship; Letter of Commendation, NYS Academic Excellence Scholarship, RIT Computing Technologies Scholarship, Certificate of Excellence in Music, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Triple “C” Award, American Chemical Association Excellence in Chemistry Award, and the Cattaraugus County Youth of the Week.

Mitchel’s extracurricular activities include: the South Towns Youth Orchestra, Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra, Area All State Orchestra & Band, Erie County All-County , Cattaraugus County All-County, SUNY Fredonia Summer Music Festival Band, SUNY Fredonia Double Reed Day,   NYSSMA Conference All-State, NAFME All-Eastern march and NYSBDA Honor Band as the principal bassoonist, Ithaca College Summer Music Academy, Junior National Honor Society, National Honor Society ,Spanish Honor Society, Member of Jr. Tri-M, Tri-M Music Honor Society (Historian, Treasurer), Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, Ski Club, Trap Club, FTC Robotics, Warrior Ambassadors, Key Club (Secretary and Web Master), Student Council Treasurer, Treasurer for the Class of 2024 (2 years), Treasurer for Concert Band, Warrior Wakeup Morning Announcements, and American Legion Boys’ State (Asst. In school Mitchel took part in several school drama club productions: Oliver (playing Artful Dodger), Footloose (keyboard two), Wizard of Oz (violin), Godspell (violin, banjo), Little Shop of Horrors (keyboard two) and most recently he held the role of Damien in Mean Girls. Outside of school, Mitchel also took part in many community theater productions: Sound of Music, Olean Community Theater (bassoon), Into the Woods, Bradford Community Theater (bassoon), You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Salamanca Community Theatre (violin, viola), A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum, Bradford Community Theater (viola), Little Shop of Horrors, Cuba Community Theater (aux. percussion).

Additional extracurricular activities that Mitchel took part in included being an integral member of Varsity Golf, Varsity Wrestling, Varsity Bowling, and eSports teams. Outside of school, he was a member of the Salamanca Youth Board, a Jr. Member of the Little Valley Volunteer Fire Dept., member of the Boy Scouts of America with a rank of Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow, BSA.

Mitchel’s future career plans include joining a military band after college and then returning to school for graduate study.

Keegan Hardy

Keegan Hardy #3

Keegan Hardy graduates with an overall average of 100.16 and is ranked # 3 in the Class of 2024. Keegan is the son of Patrick Hardy and Kersten Furlong. Throughout high school Keegan has taken 9 college classes and two AP Classes and graduates with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation. Keegan will be attending Pitt-Bradford and majoring in engineering. His career goal is to be a mechanical engineer. Keegan has been awarded KOA Scholarship and the Panther Scholarship from Pitt-Bradford. Keegan has also been awarded The Perfect Attendance Award, FFA Drone Pilot, and High Honor Roll.

Keegan’s extracurricular activities include Key Club, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and Boys State.  Keegan also participated in Football, and Track and Field, and Wrestling. Keegan has been awarded the Kyle Scott Whistle Man Award, The Trench Trophy Finalist, Most Improved Coaches Award for Wresting, Big 30 Wrestling, MVP of the wrestling team 2024. He also was awarded the Most Improved Coaches Award for Track, CCAA Sportsmanship Award, Top 10 Discus in Salamanca Track and Field, and Track Coaches Award 2024.   Keegan was awarded the First team Football Class C South for defense for All WNY honorable mention for football, WNY Athletics 2nd Team, Big 30 Game for football, Character Athlete of the game (sectional final game at High Mark Stadium) and Scholar Athlete for wrestling, track and field and football.

Dekkyn Krantz

Dekkyn Krantz #5

Dekkyn Krantz graduates with an overall average of 96.84 and is ranked #5 in the Class of 2024. Dekkyn is the son of Jeff Krantz and Tanya Heyl. Throughout high school Dekkyn has taken eleven college classes and two AP classes and graduates with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation. Dekkyn will be attending St. Bonaventure University and majoring in nursing.  Dekkyn’s career goal is to earn his LPN, then earn his RN and become a Nurse Practitioner. Dekkyn has been awarded the Friar Scholarship at St. Bonaventure.  Dekkyn has also been awarded   New Visions High Honor Roll four times, High Honor Roll 12 times, 8x Scholar Athlete 8 times, Business Student of the Month (2023) and High League Game and Average for Bowling, and 2nd Team for CCAA Football.

Dekkyn’s extracurricular activities include Business Honor Society, Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, Kiwanis Key Club, Class Vice President, and Key Club Treasurer. Dekkyn also participated in Varsity Football (Captain of Varsity Football), Varsity Golf, Varsity Bowling, and Captain of Varsity Bowling.

Kelsey Rohwer

Kelsey Rohwer #7

Kelsey Rohwer graduates with an overall average of 96.50 and is ranked # 7 in the Class of 2024.  She is the daughter of Heather Fox and Patrick Rohwer.  Throughout high school, Kelsey has successfully completed 5 college courses, 2 Advanced Placement courses and will graduate in June with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation and a Career and Technical Education Endorsement.  She will be attending Canisius University in the fall of 2024, majoring in Environmental Science.  Kelsey is interested in becoming a Wildlife Biologist. She has been awarded the Canisius Trustees Academic Scholarship and awards including the Cattaraugus County Youth of the Week, Business Marketing Student of the Month and is a Scholar Athlete.

Kelsey’s extracurricular activities include Band, Class Officer holding position of Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President, Key Club member, Web Editor (President), Jr. National Honor Society, Math Honor Society (Vice President), Odessey of the Mind, Ski Club, Student Council (Student Rep), Tri-M Honor Society (Vice President), Business Marking Honor Society (President), and National Honor Society (Secretary), and Science Honor Society (President).  Outside of school, Kelsey has been active in her local 4-H for six years, the Girl Scouts of America for 13 years and the Youth Activity Council.

Additional extracurricular activities include being a member of the Varsity Soccer, Basketball, Lacrosse teams, Cheerleading and Archery and Esports.

Lily Bryant

Lily Bryant #9

Lily Bryant graduates with an overall average of 94.77and Is ranked #9 in the Class of 2024. She is the daughter of Dean and Marina Bryant. Throughout high school Lily has completed 2 college courses and graduates with a Regents Diploma.  She will be attending Daemen College in the Fall of 2024 majoring in Journalism and English. Lily did receive the Dean Scholarship from Daemen College. Lily is interested in becoming a traveling journalist, an editor, or an author.  Lily has received the Dean’s Scholarship from Daemen.  Lily has also been awarded The Overall English/Media Award in 10th grade, Yearbook Editor, and the Best Writing Award at St. Bonaventure.

Lily’s extracurricular activities include being on the Salamanca Yearbook Staff, yearbook editor, school newspaper, National Honor Society, and NHS Treasurer. Lily also participated in volleyball, track, and basketball.

Matthew Schnaufer

Matthew Schnaufer Salutatorian (102.24)

Matthew Schnaufer graduates with an overall average of 102.24 and has been named Salamanca High School’s Salutatorian of the Class of 2024. He is the son of Timothy and Susan Schnaufer. Matthew has excelled academically, taking a challenging program of study that includes, 12 college courses, and 4 advanced placement courses. Matthew has earned the NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors, Mastery in Math, and Mastery in Science.  He will be attending SUNY Fredonia in the fall of 2024, majoring in Music Education (Saxophone).  Matthew received the SUNY Fredonia President’s Award of Excellence, CCMTA Award, SUNY Fredonia Honors College Scholarship, SUNY Fredonia Alumni Scholarship, and the SUNY Fredonia Hillman Memorial Music Association Scholarship. Other scholarships and awards include: the NYS Academic Excellence Scholarship, Masonic Scholarship Grant 2024, Excellence in Music Award, Excellence in STEAM Award, Triple C Award and Cattaraugus County Youth of the Week Award.

Matthew’s extracurricular activities include Jr. National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Tri-M Music Honors Society, Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Warrior Ambassadors, FTC Robotics, Ski Club and Trap Club. Outside of school, Matthew has taken part in the South Town’s Youth Orchestra, St. Bonaventure Jazz Band, and the Twin Tiers Community Band.

In school, Matthew took part in several school drama club productions in the pit: Footloose (base), Wizard of Oz (base), Little Shop of Horrors (base), and most recently in Salamanca’s Mean Girls (Alto Clarinet & Soprano). Outside of school, Matthew has contributed to several community theatre productions: You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and Tick Tick Boom! through the Salamanca Community Theatre, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with the Bradford Community Theatre and he has also participated in the Cuba Community Theatre.

Additionally, Matthew was a member of the following athletic teams: Modified Soccer, Modified Baseball, Modified Basketball, Varsity Cross Country (team captain, MIP), Varsity Baseball, Varsity Indoor Track, Varsity Bowling, and eSports. Matthew has also been employed as a lifeguard at SHS and has been a member of the Boy Scouts of America with a rank of Life.

Matthew’s future career plans are to become a High School Band Director.

Leyna Harper

Leyna Harper #4

Leyna Harper graduates with an overall average of 98.62 and is ranked # 4 in the Class of 2024. She is the daughter of Kelly Layman-Mohr and Jesse Mohr.  Throughout high school Leyna has completed 5 college courses and graduates with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation.  She will be attending Buffalo State College in the Fall of 2024 and majoring in Film Production.  Leyna is interested in becoming a Film Editor and Director. Leyna has received the Presidential Scholarship, Muriel A. Howard Scholarship, and the Bengal Promise Grant from Buffalo State College.  Leyna has also been awarded Woman in Stem Award from RIT, Salamanca Student of the Month Award, Girls State, Best Video Award at St. Bonaventure Communication’s Day, and Salamanca Scholar Athlete Award.

Leyna’s extracurricular activities include Chorus, Sources of Strength, president of Tv Production, executive producer of tv production, Journalism, dance, girl scouts and archery.  Leyna also was a class officer, Tri-M, Math Honor Society, JNHS, Spanish Honor Society, and Student Government. She also played Lacrosse, cheered for football and basketball, she played soccer and Storm Club Lacrosse.

Camryn Quigley

Camryn Quigley #6

Camryn Quigley graduates with an overall average of 97.06 and is ranked # 6 in the Class of 2024. She is the daughter of Angel Barlett-Quigley and Collin Quigley.  Throughout high school, Camryn has successfully completed 8 college courses and will graduate with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation. She will be attending SUNY Fredonia in the fall of 2024, majoring in Exercise Science. Camryn is interested in becoming an Occupational Therapist.  She has been awarded the following awards from SUNY Fredonia: Fox Family Scholarship, STEM Experience Grant, the President’s Award of Excellence and the Honors Award.  Camryn has also been awarded the Kiwanis Graduation Award, Cattaraugus County Youth of the Week Award, Scholar Athlete Award and Academic Excellence Award.

Camryn’s extracurricular activities include Chorus, Class Officer President from 2018-2023, Key Club member, National Honor Society, Ski Club, Warrior Ambassadors, the Business/Marketing Honor Society and Student Council President (2023-2024).  She has been active in the Girl Scouts of America for 12 years and in the Salamanca Area Aquatics Club.

Additional extracurricular activities that Camryn has taken part in include being a member of the Varsity Bowling and Softball teams, Cheerleading and as the Captain of the Varsity Swim team. Camryn has also previously been employed at the Liberty Tavern and as a lifeguard at Salamanca High School.

Kyleigh Slater

Kyleigh Slater #8

Kyleigh Slater graduates with an overall average of 94.20 and is ranked #8 in the Class of 2024. She is the daughter of Karen Hintz and Philip Slater. Throughout high school, Kyleigh has taken 6 college courses and will graduate with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with the potential to earn a Career and Technical Education Endorsement for Accounting. Kyleigh is interested in pursuing a career in the trades. During high school, she was named Warrior of the Month and has been on the high honor roll multiple times.

Kyleigh’s extracurricular activities include National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Business Marketing Honor Society, and has been a member of the Youth Action Committee.  Kyleigh has played soccer for 14 years including 3 years on the Varsity Soccer team. She has received the Andrea Morton Award, Coaches Award and Sportsmanship Award during the 23-24 season. Kyleigh has also participated in JV Basketball, Unified Basketball, Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse, and Varsity Track and Field.

Additionally, outside of school, Kyleigh has been employed at the Villaggio in Ellicottville as a hostess.

Angie Cortez

Angie Cortez #10

Angeline Cortez graduates with an overall average of 94.03 and is ranked number 10 in the Class of 2024.  She is the daughter of Josie Carlton, Greg Carlton, and Andres Cortez.   Throughout high school Angeline has completed 5 college classes and two AP Courses and graduates with a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation.  She will be attending St. Bonaventure and is undecided on a major.  She is interested in possibly having a career as a social worker. Angeline has been awarded the Provost Scholarship from St. Bonaventure.  Angeline has also been awarded honor roll each year, Salamanca English Award in 11th grade, and Salamanca Student of the Month for Business Honor Society.

Angeline’s extracurricular activities include National Honor Society President, Science Honor Society President, Vice-President of Business Honor Society, Black Student Union, Gay Straight Alliance, Sources of Strength, and Youth Activation Committee.  Angeline also played modified and varsity lacrosse and modified and JV basketball.
