The Salamanca K-Kids, a Kiwanis Club program for elementary school students, held their first meeting of the school year Oct. 2 with new members learning about the program and everyone celebrating some of the school’s staff.
K-Kids advisors Kari Kloss and Michelle Sullivan expressed their excitement in working with this year’s group. Before the meeting even started, Kloss said children were holding open doors, picking up items and asking to carry them for her.
“They were using their manners with please and thank you’s and saying excuse me if they needed to go past,” she said. “It was incredible and all before we even sat down to get started.”
The meeting began with a talk about the Kiwanis organization and what it means to be a K-Kid. Kloss said students thought of what leadership quality they think is most important in a young leader.
After learning the K-Kids pledge, Sullivan started the activity for October. Wanting to take time to appreciate Prospect Elementary’s custodial staff and all they do to keep the school safe and clean on National Custodian Day, they made them some Halloween treats. Since the K-Kids were able to make so many, they also decided to share some with the cafeteria staff for all they do.
The 2024-25 K-Kids members are: Madison Williams, Ivy Williams, Bradleigh White, Hattie Watt, Jaxton Tucker, Alek Streicher, Eila Puvel, Novelle Morton, Kylie Kyler, Kaysen Kuhaneck, Fiona John, Cayelle John, Griffin Hill, Logan Fluent, Olivia Chriss, Alana Castellon and Jack Bosworth.
