I am thankful you are well! Welcome to Salamanca City Central School District. At Salamanca we offer a variety of services for our Native American students. Our support staff is comprised of SCCSD employees and Seneca Nation employees. There are tutors, social workers, family school liaisons, language teachers, a school counselor, the Native American program coordinator and the building principals.
At Prospect Elementary, grades Pre-K-3, there are two tutors, a social worker, a family school liaison, and a language teacher. The tutor pushes into classrooms and offers support as needed. They work with the classroom teachers to identify student needs. There is after school tutoring available at the SNI or the school (you can talk to your child’s teacher or the office staff for more information). The social worker also pushes into classrooms and will pull students out as needed. They work with the classroom teachers, the principal and other support staff to identify student needs. The family school liaison is a link between school and home. They are an advocate for the student and family within the school. They help strengthen the bond between the family and the school and offer supports as needed. They work with family and school staff to identify student/family needs. The Seneca language & culture teacher assistant will push in to offer language for all students. They will offer an introduction and basic language and culture to prepare them for the next level. Their schedule will be determined by the principal.

The school also offers afterschool tutoring along with other enrichment programs. You can talk to your child’s teacher or the office staff for more information. At the High School, 8-12, there are three full time tutors, two social workers, two family school liaisons, a school counselor, two language and culture teachers, an Indigenous Studies course and a Seneca History course. The tutors have their own classroom where students are scheduled in. Students may also go in during Warrior Academy (study hall) and after school. Students can talk to their school counselor and the tutors to set that up. The social workers pull out for individual sessions and offer group sessions. They work with the students, support staff, teachers, tutors, principals, and parents to identify student needs. The family school liaisons is a link between school and home. They are an advocate for the student and family within the school. They help strengthen the bond between the family and school and offer supports as needed. The school counselor works with all the Native American students to develop educational and vocational plans along with offering other services as needed. These services can be identified by the student, teachers, parents and/or other supports.
Seneca language classes are offered to any student at SHS and start at Seneca I through Seneca V. We also offer Seneca 7 to students in 7th grade and Seneca 8 to students in 8th grade. Indigenous Studies is for any student grades 9 & 10 and Seneca History is for any student grades 11 & 12.
The Native American Program Coordinator oversees all Native American programs and services offered in the school district. They work with SCCSD administration and the Seneca Nation to ensure that all programs and services offered in the school district are meeting the needs of our Native American students. We work with grants to provide programs and services for our students and maintain a working relationship with all agencies involved.
